:: THE PHOTO STYLING WORLD

-> Introduction to Photography styling by Pascale Maigre :

The job of a photo stylist, necessarily linked with the one of a photographer, shall not be confused with the one of the fashion stylist: the latter works at creating clothes whereas the photo stylist works at accessorizing and composing the commercial image.

In the commercial field (ads), the job of the photo stylist consist in putting into place a product on a shooting set with the help of the photographer who chooses the angle and the light to reveal the product specificity.
The photo stylist composes the image in order to create a commercial impact. He researches the accessories, the objects, the backgrounds, creates a setting for the object to be shot with the aim of affirming the product style and to promote it by magnifying it.

This job also implies a good knowledge in the field of image creations and style because it is ruled by aesthetical as well as commercial laws. It must adapt itself to the moves of fashion streams and of image markets

In the press, the photo stylist's job consists in working on themes proposed by the magazine's fashion or decoration editor. These themes define the current trend. The images then translate the magazine?s identity as well as the new trends.

Starting in the 11th week, Pascale Maigre, photo stylist brings in the studio course subjects for the shooting such as metal, glass, portraits, fashion, accessories, beauty, culinary, interior?s decoration, tableware...

Progressively, during the second semester, some of the weekly 6-hour sessions become simulations of professional situations where young designers are invited to come with their creations: objects, clothes, accessories, jewelry… playing the role of a “client” researching a visual identity.
This partnership is called « Creator's club », a fair exchange between young professionals of different sectors. The meeting between young designers and young photographers, stimulating the image creativity, encourages the student to develop his own style. The goal is also to create work teams that can end up being useful for the professional future of both parties. Like this, all work to the making of personalized portfolios.

Famous partners such as Chardon Savard, Esmod, I.T.M., Fleurimon excel in bringing up various innovating ideas : Each year, the fashion school Chardon Savard publishes a book of its students' creations with photos made by Speos' students.

Exhibitions during trade shows, fashion and make-up events in theaters and television sets also carried out by our partners, allow us to open up our activities to the professional world.

Creating a visual identity in accordance with the object photographed : that’s the work of the photographer/Photo stylist team which the studio class reproduces in a professional manner. This duo as a basic entity for any photographic production, get the student to assimilate professional skills rapidly and efficiently.
